Double Degree Diplomas

 

There are seven MSc degree programs that are currently implemented at GRIAT jointly with partner-universities:

In the near future GRIAT will launch new MSc degree programs  jointly with at least three German partner universities: TU Braunschweig, Saarland University, Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt) in the field of Aircraft Engineering, Quantum Technologies, Microelectronics, Computer Vision Systems, Modern Photonics, Software Engineering in Embedded Systems and others.

Double degree programs enhance students‘ independent study and research skills, develop critical thinking, ability to live and work in a multicultural environment, think outside the box, become more flexible, accepting of differences and tolerant, and of course, GRIAT broadens students‘ horizons.
Students have more opportunities to get internships in the leading German and Russian companies;
do cutting-edge research with the best German and Russian professors; apply for joint PhD programs.
During the first two semesters of their MSc educational programs  GRIAT students study at KNRTU-KAI in Kazan, the third semester they study at a German partner university, for the fourth semester students go back to Russia or may stay in Germany to finish writing their MSc thesis. Each year two German professors fly in as a “flying faculty” to give lectures at TU Kazan in each MSc program for a period of 10 to 20 days. A German language teacher (native speaker) offers German language classes during the first two semesters in Kazan, and GRIAT students enroll into German language classes while they are in Germany. The basic medium of instruction is English in Russia and Germany.

 

 

Master of Science in Communications and Signal Processing

The Master’s degree program “Communications and Signal Processing” is jointly implemented at the Institute of
Radio Electronics and Telecommunications of KNRTU-KAI with TU Ilmenau.
The program is aimed to achieving practice-oriented knowledge and skills in the field of Infocommunication
Technologies and Communication Systems, and includes basic subjects such as Methods for Modeling and
Optimization, Theory of the Construction of Information and Communication Networks and Systems, Information
Theory and Coding, Theory of Optimal Signal Processing in Information and Communication Systems as well as
advanced subjects such as Advanced Digital Signal Processing, Mobile Communications, Optical Communication
Systems, Advanced Course Radiophotonics, Theory of Narrowband Noise in Optical Communications Systems,
Advanced Topics in Communications and Signal Processing, MIMO Wireless Communications, etc. Also during
studies students are involved to the performance of integrated projects, and at the end of studies they prepare and
defend final Master's degree thesis. It is assumed that each student will have two scientific supervisors: one from
side of Russian university and second from side of German university.

  • allows us to solve the problem of optimal placement of radio transmitting stations, to carry out research and

  • · Laboratory Rhode & Schwarz equipped with advanced radio measuring equipment for dielectric
  • spectroscopy method, radio measurements, and network analysis in the band up to 50 GHz
  • · Laboratory of distance learning technologies based on the National Instruments technologies enables
  • remote laboratory studies with real laboratory and measuring equipment
  • · “Fiber-optic technology” Center equipped with modern station of recording Bragg fiber gratings,
  • measuring equipment for research and development of radiophotonic’s principles.
  • · Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials Center equipped with an analytical research equipment for the analysis
  • of nanomaterials and the development of nanotechnology in electronics.

The Master’s degree program “Chemical and Energy Engineering” is jointly implemented at the Institute of
Aviation, Land Vehicles and Energetics of KNRTU-KAI with Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering of Ottovon-
Guericke-University Magdeburg.


The program is aimed to achieving practice-oriented knowledge and skills in the field of Heat and Power
Engineering, Energetic Efficiency and Ecological Compatibility, and includes basic subjects such as Philosophical
Problems of Engineering Knowledge, Economics and Production Management, Mathematical Modelling, Modern
Problems of Energy and Heat Engineering, Thermal Engines, Problems of Energy Resource Saving in Energy and
Heat Engineering, Renewable Energies, Ecological Safety, Principles of Effective Process Control in Energy and
Heat Engineering, Product Quality, Chemistry as well as advanced subjects such as Advanced Fluid Dynamics,
Advanced Heat and Mass Transfer, Mechanical Process Engineering, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Thermal
Process Engineering, Process System Engineering, Combustion Engineering, Plant Design etc.

Department of Power Engineering and Heat Engineering is a leading at the Institute of Aviation Land Vehicles and
Energetics of KNRTU-KAI for joint Master's program with the University of Magdeburg within the project GRIAT.
The department is well-known for its research works. It has close cooperation with several big companies such as
JSC Kazan Aviation Production Association, JSC KamAZ, Holding of Integrated Energo-Development and others.

The Master’s degree program “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” is jointly
implemented at the Institute of Automation and Electronic Instrumentation of KNRTU-KAI with Ottovon-
Guericke-University Magdeburg.


High standards of teaching and research activity are provided by modern innovation infrastructure of
leading Russian university and respective German university as well. The program is aimed to achieving
practice-oriented knowledge and skills in the field of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology,
and includes basic subjects such as Electromagnetic Field Theory, Power Electronics, Systems and
Control, Electronic Circuits, Digital Information Processing, Power Network Planning and Operation as
well as advanced subjects such as Digital Communication Systems, Modern Concepts of EMC and EMC
Measurements, Advanced Power Electronics, Renewable Energy Sources, Power Electronic Components
and Systems, Power System Economics and Special Topics, etc. Also during studies students are involved
to the performance of integrated projects, and at the end of studies they prepare and defend final Master's
degree thesis. It is assumed that each student will have two scientific supervisors: one from side of
Russian university and second from side of German university.
Department of Electrical Equipment is a leading at the Institute of Automation & Electronic Instrument-
Making of KNRTU-KAI for joint Master's program with the University of Magdeburg within the project
GRIAT.
Department of Electrical Equipment is actively developing international cooperation. Under European
academic program TEMPUS, project «Practical-oriented master's programs in engineering" was
successfully implemented within the period from 2011 to 2013.
The new teaching and research laboratory «CAD / CAM / CAE in electrical engineering» was established
at the Department of Electrical Equipment with the assistance of the Berlin University of Technology
(Germany) and Lessius University (Belgium).
The science and technology seminar "Modern hardware and software for the simulation of electrical
equipment and power systems» was organized in June 2013 by the Department of Electrical Equipment
with the participation of specialists of the company Real Time Digital Simulator Company RTDS
Technologies (Canada) and Manitoba-HDVC Research Centre (Canada).
The Master’s degree program Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies will use updated
equipment and laboratories of Electrical Equipment Department, e.g. academic and research laboratory
Automation, Relay Protection and Control of Power Systems, equipped with advanced microprocessorbased
relay protection of the leading Russian company "EKRA" (city of Cheboksary) and a set of RTDS
Technologies (Canada), as well as academic laboratories for Electrical Engineering, Analog and Digital
Electronics, Power Electronic Devices and Electric Drive, set up jointly with the firm National
Instruments (USA).

Master of Science in Research in Computer and Systems Engineering

as advanced subjects such as Intelligent systems, Software & Systems Engineering, Mobile
Communications Networks, Parallel Programming, Systems simulation with Matlab, Systems
Optimization, Systems Security, Complex Embedded Systems, UMTS Networks, Advanced database
systems etc. Also during studies students are involved to the performance of integrated projects, and at the
end of studies they prepare and defend final Master's degree thesis. It is assumed that each students will
have two scientific supervisors: one from side of Russian university and second from side of German

Department of Information Security is a leading at the Institute of Technical Cybernetics & Informatics
of KNRTU-KAI for joint Master's program with the TU Ilmenau within the project GRIAT.
Laboratories involved into the program realization:
Computing Cluster
Computing cluster SUN which installed in KNRTU-KAI is in the top-50 in Russia. The cluster is able to
solve a wide variety of computing problems and apply parallel algorithms for modeling, strength analysis,
mechanics, reliability and data protection.

Set of laboratories of information protection allows to provide complex research in the area of protection
of information (including distributed) systems as well as protection of software, and countering
information leaks through engineering channels.
Laboratory of Intelligent Systems
The laboratory provides research in the field of intelligent and robotic systems development for a variety
of topical problems related to using and application of neural networks, fuzzy logic, expert systems, data
mining and machine vision.

The Master’s degree program “Systems Engineering and Engineering Cybernetics” is jointly
implemented at the Institute of Automation and Electronic Instrumentation of KNRTU-KAI with
Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg.


The program is characterized by universality and cross-cutting nature of the training. It focuses
on training of broad specialists in the field of complex automation for various sectors of the
economy. Graduates will carry out the development, design, manufacturing, commissioning and
operation of automation equipment and systems for special purposes (airplanes, helicopters,
spacecraft, ships, including hydrofoil), to manage complex technical objects, units, technology
and manufacturing processes. Masters level of training allows them to conduct theoretical and
applied research in the field of automation and control systems. The content of training includes
all aspects of real objects automation: the identification and modeling of objects, systems design
and control algorithms, and finally, their hardware and software implementation, including on
the basis of microprocessors and control computers. Automation and control specialists - one of
the most universal and sought-after specialists.


Department of Automation and Control is working in the field of aviation (together with TsAGI
Zhukovsky, JSC NPO "Design Bureau named after M.P. Simonov" and JSC MVEN Kazan),
space applications (JSC "ISS" Reshetnev "Zheleznogorsk), automotive vehicles (Concern
Tractor plants Cheboksary), shipbuilding (Zelenodolsk design bureau and plant named after
A.M. Gorky) and other industries. Work is in progress on the development of intelligent control
systems for general aviation. Continue research within creative collaboration agreements with
CHPZ "Elara" Cheboksary, JSC NPP "Temp-Avia" Arzamas, Ural instrument-making plant
(APP) Ekaterinburg, RDCB Ramenskoye.
The department has a highly qualified scientific and teaching staff. Taught by eight professors
and doctors of technical and physical and mathematical sciences, thirteen associate professors,
candidates of sciences.


Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering

The Master’s degree program “Aerospace Engineering” is jointly implemented at the Institution of Aviation, Land Transport and Energy of KNRTU-KAI with TU Braunschweig.


This program is aimed to achieving practice-oriented knowledge and skills in the field of Aerospace Engineering and includes 5 specializations (students are to choose one from the follows):
1. Structural Mechanics;
2. Aircraft construction and designing of aircraft;
3. Production technology of airplanes;
4. Aerodynamics;
5. Aircraft engines.
Program includes such subjects as Methodical Design of Transport Aircraft, Stability Theory, Adaptive Ligthweight Structures, Production of Composite Structures, Flight Dynamics of Longitudinal and Lateral Motion, Aircraft Engine Design, Fundamentals of Composite Materials, Forming Technology, Rotor Dynamics, Aircraft Engine Maintenance, Basics of Aeroacoustics, Combustion Systems and Fuel Cells, Aircraft Design, Production engineering for aerospace technology, Configuration Aerodynamics, Measurement Techniques for Turbomachinery with Laboratory etc.
Also during studies students are involved to the performance of integrated projects, and at the end of studies they prepare and defend final Master’s degree thesis. It is assumed that each student will have two scientific supervisor: one from the side of Russian University and second from the side of German University.

Main laboratories that are involved into the educational and scientific process.
The testing laboratory of strength and reliability of aircraft constructions.
Laboratory is accredited by the Aviation Register of the International Aviation Committee. The test products are: aircrafts and their components, construction elements, metal materials, polymer composites, thermoplastics.
Types of tests are static, re-static, resource, fatigue and survivability, tribological, climatic tests.
Equipment of the laboratory: the hydraulic and electromechanical equipment, multichannel systems of the registration of the tensometric information and information of changes in the geometric parameters of the test examples and their movements, program automated control systems for testing.
Aircraft construction and designing of aircraft laboratory. There are 5 full-size aircraft in the teaching laboratories (passenger supersonic Tu - 144, E - 2a, MiG - 23, MiG - 25, Su - 7b), large number of units of other aircraft and helicopter units.
Center of composite technologies for the production technology of airplanes. This center consist of Laboratory CAD / CAM / CAE systems, Manufacturing Laboratory of Composite Structures, Technological equipment Laboratory, Laboratory of physical chemistry composites, Laboratory static and impact tests, Laboratory of folded structures, Laboratory of Acoustic Research.
Aerodynamics Laboratory.
There are two wind tunnels of low velocities of closed type in aerodynamic laboratory with the open test section (the velocities in the working area are from 10 to 50 m/s, working area diameters are 2,25m and 0.7m) and one hydrodynamic channel.
Wind tunnels are equipped with aerodynamic mechanical strain-gauge-weights, PIV - POLIS system, dimming system for experimenting with PIV- system.
Aerodynamic wind tunnels and hydrodynamic channel are designed to perform industrial, scientific researches, laboratory training of the students in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, flow visualization processes of different bodies, getting information of integrated and distributed aerohydrodynamic characteristics for the experimental studies.
The main scientific directions of the Laboratories of aircraft engineering are laser rocket engines, the study of gas turbine engines combustion chambers, liquid ejectors, gas and water-air ejectors, heat and sound-insulated equipment systems etc.

Master of Science in Automotive Engineering

Alternative Propulsion Systems, Brake Systems, Simulation Methods in ICE Development, Design and
Calculation of Ground Transport Technological Machines, Engine Control Systems, Combustion Process
Modeling, Ecology of the Automobile etc.

Department of Automobile Engines and Service is a leading in the KNRTU-KAI for joint Master's
program “Automotive Engineering” with the TU Ilmenau within the project GRIAT.
