Among the participants of the congress which was held in the Bauman Moscow State Technical University were the rectors of the universities that are members of the Association of Technical Universities, and of the universities which actively cooperate with the organization as well as heads of industrial enterprises, organizations and scientific institutions of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Belarus, other countries, representatives of federal agencies, ministries, departments, academic and public structures.
The decision has been made to allow the Sukhoi State Technical University of Gomel and Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno to join the Association. The number of member universities in the ATU thus increased to 131, 16 of them represent CIS countries.
Prof. Dr. Albert Gilmutdinov, KNRTU-KAI rector, has been elected as ATU vice-president along with Prof. Dr. Andrey Rudskoy, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (POLYTECH) rector and Prof. Dr. Petr Chubik, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) rector. Prof. Dr. Anatoly Alexandrov, Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) rector has been elected president.
The forum discussed the problems and issues of engineering education. Representatives of universities, industry and government discussed the structure of training of engineering personnel, the improvement of general scientific and general engineering disciplines teaching, the demand for professions and specialties in the near future, the emergence of new directions and specialties, including those which are located in the intersection of different industries. During the event Dr. Alexandrov has made a presentation called "Traditions and Continuity of the Russian Engineering School." The university community has also discussed several topics connected with the educational process, international cooperation, interaction with employers, online education as well as the education for people with disabilities.
The significance of the congress was also determined by the fact that it was held in the year of the 25th anniversary of a system of university technical education in Russia and 25th anniversary of ATU. This year also marks the 150th anniversary of Russian Technical Society.
